The SOFT CLASS
with Rosalind Holgate Smith
This contemporary dance class takes a rigorous approach to soften how we come into contact with each other and the world around. We will begin with somatic bodywork and explore simple phrases and patterns involving work with touch and imagery. Having cultivated softness, buoyancy and fluid alignment we will then apply these qualities in partnering and more dynamic and athletic dancing involving flying, falling and soft acrobatic forms. The Soft Class, will draw on principles from Body-Mind Centering, Skinner Release Technique, Contact Improvisation and Martial Arts. It takes its name from a class led by Steve Paxton in the 1970-80's. It is for dancers interested in movement as a research practice, and is open to all levels.
